Q: How to clean and maintain a Soft body armor?
A: Outer fabric/vest: Wipe with a damp cloth or wash gently according to the instructions. Avoid machine washing and tumble drying.
Protective layer (inserts/soft inner liner): Do not soak or use chemical solvents. Only gently wipe surface stains with a damp cloth; completely avoid washing with water.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, and dark environment. Avoid folding and squeezing (especially the ceramic plate); preferably store upright or flat.
Q: Which is better, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) or aramid (such as Kevlar)?
A: Both are top-tier soft bulletproof materials, but their properties differ:
1. UHMWPE (Polyethylene):
• Advantages: Lighter (approximately 30% lighter than equivalent aramid), waterproof and moisture-resistant (performance unaffected by moisture).
• Disadvantages: Poor high-temperature resistance (melting point approximately 145°C, may fail in fire), degrades under prolonged UV exposure.
• Suitable for: Extremely lightweight applications, used in humid environments.
2. Aramid (such as Kevlar, Tevlar):
• Advantages: Good high-temperature resistance (decomposition point approximately 450°C), superior anti-aging properties.
• Disadvantages: Susceptible to moisture (wet strength decreases, requires special coating), heavier than polyethylene for equivalent protection.
• Suitable for: Environments requiring heat resistance.
Modern high-end bulletproof vests often combine both materials to balance performance.
