Q: How large is the "protective area" of a PE bulletproof vest? Why can't it provide full coverage?
A: This is a harsh trade-off between "protection" and "functionality."
Standard size (e.g., SAPI plate): Approximately 25cm x 30cm, covering only the most vulnerable areas such as the heart, major blood vessels, lungs, and upper liver. The kidneys, spleen, part of the liver, and the entire abdomen (intestines, etc.) are not within the core protection area.
Q: Why not full coverage?
A: Weight limitations: Every additional square inch of protective area adds hundreds of grams of weight. A full-coverage heavy bulletproof vest (such as a bomb disposal suit) weighs over 20 kg, severely compromising mobility, agility, and sustained combat capability.
Freedom of movement: Protective plates restrict tactical movements such as bending, twisting, and raising arms. The larger the area, the greater the restriction.
Heat dissipation requirements: The PE bulletproof vest primarily dissipates heat through the torso; large-area coverage leads to heat accumulation and can cause heatstroke.
The core logic is: To achieve maximum protection for the most vulnerable organs with minimal weight and movement restrictions. This is a cold but rational choice made using statistical and medical data.
