Q: How heavy is a kevlar bulletproof vest?
A: Weight varies greatly depending on protection level and size:
• Soft Level III vest: Approximately 2-3 kg.
• A set of Level III ceramic composite plates (front + back): Approximately 3-4 kg.
• A set of Level IV ceramic composite plates (front + back): Approximately 5-7 kg or heavier.
Including the vest, side panels, ammunition, and other equipment, the total combat load typically exceeds 15 kg.
Q: Do kevlar bulletproof vest have an expiration date? Do they need to be replaced?
A: Yes, they have an expiration date.
Soft bulletproof materials (aramid, polyethylene) are sensitive to UV rays and humidity, and the materials will age. They typically have a shelf life of 5 years, and should be replaced periodically even if unused.
Hard bulletproof plates (ceramic, steel plates) age more slowly, but manufacturers usually recommend a service life of 5-10 years, and they should be checked regularly for cracks.
They must be replaced after being hit by a bullet: Hard plates (especially ceramic) have their internal structure damaged after intercepting a bullet, and their protective ability will be significantly reduced.
